I've no idea, just found it in pond water, and I've never seen one of these before. Very different:

I don't think so... I've seen flatworms before, this is not like them. I really have no idea. Not a ciliate, no internal motion, I'm stumped.

Please tell us if this object is active, was it moving about when you observed it? What objective magnification spec were these images captured with, what overall magnification would you estimate we are enjoying here? Hi Charlie, I was using the 10/.25 objective, as noted in the pics, it was not moving and quite inactive. It's from a pond here on the Cape I took a sample from last week. I'm not even sure how to classify this organism. I've never seen one like it before, and I have something even stranger I'm about to post, the weirdest thing I've yet seen under my microscope, I kid you not.

If it were moving..like others in this thread...I'd say: 'micrturbellarian'...due the first image showing pigmented eye spots'. But being non-motile...too little resolution to speculate ( for me that is).

There are many types of flatworms.

No, that's two different ones. The second is two frame lines down on the slide from the first. If you'll note in my post I said I'd found another one.

This is an egg, and you can see the beginnings of segments inside, which are characteristic of arthropods like insects. I don't have the expertise to say exactly which kind, but for instance you can find pictures of midge eggs (though usually in masses) that look much like this, complete with the otherwise-flatworm-like eyespots.

Okay, good enough for me

It's an egg... of something, we don't know what, but it's an egg.

It could be a flatworm; however, it is no flatworm of mammals. If it is, it is one not mentioned in any modern textbooks.
