Nasty scum in my birdbath

Looked at the birdbath to see if maybe I could find some diatoms.
Found this stuff floating in it.

Looks like the dreaded red algae from space.

It is obviously extra-terrestrial. Nowhere on planet earth is to day June 25th. :lol:

I noticed that. My camera takes pictures from the future!
I usually crop that out, but NOOOOO! :D

Yep. Birdbath is the perfect source for Haematococcus, which can be a very interesting subject.

One mans bird bath nastiness is anothers microscopy safari! I've been with unaided eyes watching my garden bird baths communities...and adding water to top it off frequently. My area birds and insects,( and my good doggie if I.m not looking) all drink from that aquatic oasis.
