Hi,

One of my students captured this image of what I think are Euglena. They are attached to piece of debris. Is this typical of Euglena?

All the best,
Daryl

Hard to tell at this magnification, but they do seem to have an euglena look to them.
I however have never seen them attached to anything, still less in this way.
This form of attachment is more reminiscent of diatoms.

Perhaps someone with more experience with euglenas can clarify.

Well if they do not move they probabely not Euglena. Maybe something like Characiopsis, Characium, Chlamydopodium. These Chlorophyta are attached by stalks on other algea or substratum. But it is just a guess & more details are required.
