Flotsam or Jetsam?

#1 Post by 75RR » Wed Apr 08, 2015 5:53 pm

Run into these on a regular basis; they tend to be either pink or blue.
Decided it was time I asked in case anyone knew.
Not sure which is flotsam and which is jetsam … does anyone know?

Hi 75 R R,
This looks like a cotton fibre to me. It may have come as contamination on your "clean" new microscope slides or cover slips.
Peter.

Sometimes it's woth trying to set things alight and noting its behaviour. If it burns into ash it's of plant origen. If it melts into a little ball and smokes excessively it's synthetic. If it smells sulphury it's animal. If it yells " ouch! " its alive.

PS: Remove slide from stage before applying flame.

That is good advice!
