Ciliate ID

#1 Post by Wes » Wed Sep 18, 2019 10:00 am

I found this ciliate with what looks like a big 'mouth' in a freshwater pond at a very shallow depth (basically within hands reach of the shore). It measures at 70x50 µm. It seems to have a taste for brown stuff :D

Now that's a very nice image, as compared with my amoeba. Taken with the Canon 50D?

Thanks Sauerkraut, its not as sharp as I wish but good enough for an ID. It was taken with the 50D yes. One thing I don't like is how the images always look sharper in preview and then come out blurrier.

Really nice! This one can be identified to species level: Lembadion lucens (cell size significantly smaller than that of L. bullinum, oral aperture shorter than that of L. magnum)
