Does anyone have any good suggestions for a book that has many microscopic images of microbes to help with the identification process?

For fresh water pond life we use "Das Leben im Wassertropfen" here in Germany. It will probably be helpful even when it is written in a language you don't speak. It has been on the market for a long time, you could buy used an older edition.

Wassertropfen, indeed.
Everything sounds more scientific in German!

Does that include forms of yeast and bacteria?

Brock's is not very good for ID, btw. Nematology keys are surprisingly expensive, although I hear good things about the Perry and Moens and there is a nice fluorescence photo on the cover.

Guide to Microlife, Rainis and Russel: https://www.amazon.com/Guide-Microlife- ... 774&sr=8-1

Free-Living Freshwater Protozoa, a Color Guide, Patterson: https://www.amazon.com/Free-Living-Fres ... oks&sr=1-3

Pictorial Atlas of Soil and Seed Fungi, Watanabe: https://www.amazon.com/PICTORIAL-ATLAS- ... oks&sr=1-2

Identification of bacteria and yeast generally take biochemical methods at a minimum, so a pictorial-only atlas is of little use.

Than a book?

Posting a video on a forum or facebook group is usually a quicker route.

Check out the Microbe Hunter Wikki. There is at least one good publication in PBF form.

Nice compilation. I just checked out Free-Living Freshwater Protozoa, a Color Guide by Patterson as a pdf, not bad at all.

Here's another book that is free as a pdf that has beautiful photos of a wide range of organisms. I find it very useful for identification and just admiring the fantastic photos.

You can, mostly, however the ring-binded books are intriguing ...

It's an older photo as I re-arranged the books on a regular basis. One was a book on microscopy and another was Aquatic beetles. I hope to finally begin spending quality time in my lab if I retire next year. Then I can participate more in the forums and maybe even finally make that trip to visit Apochronaut.LOL.
