ID help for beginner

#1 Post by Taryn » Wed Jul 08, 2020 7:34 pm

Hello,

This may be too easy, but I have had trouble identifying the following blobs . They are from lake water. The first 2 images show four of the unidentified blobs surrounding an air bubble. The last one appears to be the remains of something (?). I have seen a few of these and they are brownish amber in color with bottom LED illumination. The magnification is 100x I believe. Thank you all for your help and for answering my beginner’s question!

For the first two images, blobs and an air bubble sound about right. The third one looks like a Statoblast, which is a good catch!

Thanks 75RR! I looked up statoblast and I think that’s definitely what it is.

If anyone has ideas on the two top photos, I’d love to hear them. The blobs didn’t move for the 15 minutes I observed them, but did appear to be rotating very slowly in place. Magnification 100x.
