Adapter to mount B&L StereoZoom Pod to AO StereroStar stand?

#1 Post by geo_man » Thu Sep 10, 2020 5:51 pm

Hi all. Has anyone ever heard of or built an adapter that would allow a B&L StereoZoom pod to be mounted on an AO StereoStar stand? Thanks.

That's a real square-peg-in-a-round-hole proposition. How good is your welding?

Haha, thanks. I was thinking 3D printer, but I don't have one.

Pretty sure the hole in an A.O. stand (98mm hole?) is too small to handle the B&L body (more than 4" across the squarish shaped diagonal??). So a 3D printed adapter that slips in probably won't work or, if it just barely fits, won't have much "meat."

$60 might get you a B&L bare stand on Ebay or a damaged scope on a good base. You could even upgrade an aim for a transmitted base, if there is a need for it.

You could also bandsaw the cutout in something like plastic, wood, or aluminum and fasten it to whatever focusing rack and stand you can find for less than Ebay prices.

Thanks Pete. I have a Gemolite Mark V with an AO mount that I would like to attack my B&L SZ7 to. I knew it was a long shot.

You can remove the whole focusing arm from a Gemolite and make an adapter to mount a new one on of any brand. It may even fit either brand natively, not sure. It is just held on with four bolts.
That said I saw an AO stand someone had put a bausch and lomb e arm onto. I will see if I can refind that. But that likely wouldn't be parcentric so not recommended.
