zeiss intermediate tube slide question

is that a piece in there already that comes out.....i know that a 6x20mm slide is supposed to go in there but the slot is smaller...what am i missing?

This slot is for the 4x12 sliders, these are the older full metal sliders not the newer 6x20 plastic ones.

doesn't have a shelf for a filter though...is it just to drop down light
