Unidentified American Optical attachment for series 10

#1 Post by XrayOptics » Tue Sep 26, 2023 5:17 pm

I have an attachment that came with an AO series 10 microscope, but I am not quite sure what it is as I can’t find it in any of the AO catalogs I have found online. It has a 45 degree angles glass reflector (not a prism), and a light blue lens and filter slot in the tube coming off the side. Looks like some sort of vertical illuminator. Any ideas?

Thanks

It's part of an epi illuminator, missing the lamp and lamp attachment. A.O. made a series of episcopic (reflected) objectives for it, which usually accompanied one of their industrial series scopes (#3000-something). Still, you could add a DIY LED illuminator and play around with it with your series 10.

Further to PeteM’s identification … do take reasonable care when handling it: that ‘pellicle’ may [for good optical reasons] only be the thickness of a coverslip.
