LED Light kit

Hi!
I just wanted to post a pic of my latest purchase, an LED light kit! I got it at the dollar store. Installation is simple. Take it out of the sack and turn it on and place it under the built-in illuminator!

Seriously though, I did give me a chance to see that it was better than the 30W halogen lighting that came with the scope. With three LEDs the illumination is even across the field of view and my specimens are clearer and sharper. Now all I have to do is add a way to adjust the intensity and I'm all set! Radio Shack just had to close when I needed it the most!

For a microscope while on holiday by St.Lawrence River/US-Canada borderlands...that's exactly what I use. Mine you can click it to either all LED's on...or perhaps only one on. And folded paper toweling is your intensity control...one ply, vrs. numerous ply of toweling. Charlie guevara

hey Great idea Charlie! I think the quality of the light source might be better, if i can find one. I think a microscope with a built-in LED might be in my future. What do you think of this one? It has Phase contrast with all the annular condensers built in, Infinity Plan also.

I looked at the link..it does not give specifics on each lens unit (the oculars, the objectives)...I encourage you to post a request in a forum thread.

Ideally, some folks will coment to you in this thread. I agree a trinocular head, brightfield and phase contrast are terrific starts for microscopy. I hope folks coment for you in this thread. charlie guevara

I use one of these:

It is insanely bright.. You cannot look directly into it... I just prefer the warm white color... I looks like natural sun light to me...

Bill, that's a great idea! What do you use to control the intensity? Is there another piece of kit we can connect to?

Hi Boffin,

I used a PWM controller from Ebay such as this one..

The large flange on the light fixture comes off easy...
