Best rotary microtome?
Best rotary microtome?
So, here is a question. As far as mechanical hand-operated rotary microtomes I have experience with AO 820 and Leitz 1512. In general, which table-top rotary microtome would be considered the best money can buy? It is probably a silly question, but I'm curious. I'n not talking about modern ultramicrotomes with LN2 cryostats and things like that. Basic rotary 'tomes.
Re: Best rotary microtome?
Well I can't answer your question as I have only ever used 1.
Mine is a Anglia Scientific Shandon 0325.
Its pretty sweet, its (basically) the same as mrsonchus's.
It produces ribbons pretty much instantounously and consistently once you have the blade at the right angle, which is the one the manual says you should have it at.
There is a lot to think about in getting tissue sectioned, stained and mounted but I don't really have to think about the sectioning part at all. It just works.

I agree with Bill here.. Mrsonchus has produced some superior work with the Shandon he has... Take a look at some of his posts...
