well black dirt in water would make a great ND-filter.

As was just suggested...a lot of substances in water suspension affect transmittance in proportion to their concenstration.

With a lot of organic substances you can select for a specific color of the spectrum you wish to absorb...again in proportion to the concentration.

What do you have in mind for your fluid filter? charlie guevara...welcome to this forum!

You could also try various concentrations of food dye of various colors in a small Petri dish below the condenser. Or is that not what you are asking about?

Hi Dnielaflors,
You do not state what kind of filter you are after, however, if you want a variable colour filter crushed clear glass in a mixture of benzene and alcohol can achieve this by adjusting the proportion of benzene to alcohol.
Hope this helps.
Peter.
