rack and pinion translational control
I am involved in a project, using microscope stage techniques. To me, the most important characteristic of those stages is the resistance of the table when in motion.
Therefore, I have been searching for a source on the internet, but not yet found. I need a translation unit, you find on XY stages. I have several myself on Olympic XY stages (see attachment).
Who is making these? Where can I find these (or modern versions of it)?
Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,
do you mean Olympus?
Better pictures from all sides would help.
If price plays no Rolex x-y stages from Märzhäuser might be an idea. https://www.marzhauser.com/produkte.html
They have been the major manufacurer of this equipment for a long time.

Price DOES play a role! Yes, I meant Olympus. Nobody doing this sort of things for budgettarians?

A quick search on ebay will find such things at almost any price-point you care to choose:butterflies wrote:Nobody doing this sort of things for budgettarians?
"microscope xy mechanical stage" ... list by 'lowest price + postage' and go browsing.
Consider:
(a) Do you need concentric controls, or will separate ones be O.K. ?
(b) What sort of build-quality & range-of-movement do you need ?

Thanks for your reply, but I do not search for stages, only for the control unit of the rack and pinion. I am interested in manufacturors making these.

Assuming you only need a few, one source is to buy used stages on Ebay. Maybe $50 each if they're missing (as many are) the slide clips.
Depending upon your need, there are also cheap screw-driven x-y tables, precise micrometer-screw driven tables, and the like.
And a few days ago, info about a very affordable x-y stage was posted -- this with individual controls.
