My idea is to get several of these giant pipettes to collect samples in the field, does anyone know where I can get them?

A reasonable equivalent [usually made from high temperature plastic, these days] is a Turkey Baster.
Available from any good CookShop, and many of the ‘Bargain Stores’

This has much in common with an areometer, used to measure the density of car cooling fluid.

Not sure why you would need several - one and a few jars should do nicely.
