Re: Teaching Mineralogy
Thanks, Michael. The recipes for crystal growth are one thing we can use.
Curious - have you stumbled across anything similar with photo illustrations? We're trying to assemble a small library that can help kids can browse to come up with ideas for STEAM (what used to be "science fair") 4th grade through high school projects. Seems that cool images are key to capturing kids' interest.

Here’s the parent page for that one, Pete

… You might want to skim through all of the freebies
If I find anything with great pictures, I will post a link here.

GUIDE TO THIN SECTION MICROSCOPY - Second Edition (2012)
by MICHAEL M. RAITH, PETER RAASE & JÜRGEN REINHARDT
This is a beautiful student guide (PDF) I wish I had during my study in the eighties. Theory and practical examples of orthoscopic (='normal') and conoscopic viewing methods combined, nice graphics and photos.
A must-have for anyone with a petrographic microscope or even with basic polarization capabilities.

Re: Teaching Mineralogy
My pleasure Michael. I was a bit surprised that it didn't show up at a search for a title like this. Perhaps wrong query...
