Old Microscope Books (downloadable): Internet Archive

Please copy and paste the whole line below: don't use as a link since the the text after "and" does not appear to form part of the link. You can download as PDF or text any of those books. Downloads are free (copyright no longer applies to these books). Of course you can also search and download books other than microscope books.

That is a neat site. It will take a while to explore all it offers. Thanks.

Thank you, JimT. It turns out this is the basically the same website that was previously posted by Cyclops (but without the "Internet" designation:

The Internet Archive is a great source for old texts. It accepts uploads, too (last year, I added my scan of Kahl's indispensable 4-volume treatise on ciliates to the archive).

An even better source for old biological literature is the Biodiversity Heritage Library: http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/

The BHL is particularly good for retrieving articles from journals. The site allows you to preview individual pages from periodicals, and then select the portion you want to download. The software then extracts the article you want, and sends it to your email address in searchable .pdf form (saving you the trouble of downloading an entire volume and laboriously extracting a .pdf from it).
