I have been fortunate to have been provided some samples including Marine diatoms. As a result I have been looking for a good reference for identifying them. I think I have found a valuable resource that I want to share.
The USGS offers this on their site, free of charge, the Stuart Stidolph Diatom Atlas.
It represents an astounding amount of work that is available for free. It features marine diatoms from various sub tropical and tropical sites around the world. The document itself discusses the efforts and methods, but it is notable to me that all of these images were captured in the 1980's and 90's with analog photography.
While the various location may not translate to your specific area of collection, as a reference to at least provide a genera, it still has substantial usefulness. What you discover here, if not your specific form, will certainly assist in narrowing any further search you might undertake.
It is provided as both a complete 200+ page, 110mb PDF document or by the site and related classifications in 3 page sections. You can download, and store or print whatever portion suits you purposes.
The full document can be downloaded at the link at the bottom of this page:

To take a look at individual plates start here:

I would encourage all to read through the menu topics located at the upper left to get the full appreciation and use from the site.
Hope you all find it useful.

Glad you all found it worthwhile.
People with the drive and patience to complete a project like this are amazing to me. And then to make it available to everyone free of charge demonstrates a true commitment to sharing the knowledge.
