Free online software to exrecise the structure of microscopes

#1 Post by mrmemory » Tue Feb 07, 2017 3:24 pm

Hello all,
maybe interesting for the teacher.. Together with a friend, we have created a free, web based software tool, which pupils or students can us, to exercise the structure of microscopes. It´s a very simple thing: You see a microscope and on the right, you see the parts of the microscope. By using drag&drop, one can move the parts to the numbers. When you´re done, you can press the "check" button, to see, if you were successfull. With reset, you can start again. The users should repeat it, until they are perfectly familiar with the microscope:

Please find the training tool here: http://light-microscope.net/training/

Please leave a comment here, if you have suggestions how to improve the software.

And, the tool is available in several, different languages - we are working on more. Just cklick on your flag...

I keep getting a "server not found" error. Otherwise it looks good.

Thanks for the feedback so far.

Pat, can you please tell me, when this error exactly showed up?
When pressing a button, or moving a widget etc.?

Works, though not much better than a diagram - perhaps with improvements it might be ok for little kids.

Would be clearer if the names to be matched were either above or below the drawing,
as having them on the right, practically on top of the column of numbers does little for the page presentation.

Placing sounds for wrong or right choice would help, as would, if clicking on a part, brought up a description/function of the item.

I suggest you look up microscope diagrams for the part name in other languages rather than using a dictionary or google translate.
You have labeled the Coarse Focus in Spanish: enfoque grossero. The meaning of grossero = vulgar/offensive :)

The correct name is: Tornillo (de enfoque) macrométrico
Zeiss Standard WL (somewhat fashion challenged) & Wild M8
Olympus E-P2 (Micro Four Thirds Camera)

-The advantage to a diagram is, that you can repeat it and check it easily. And, one can´t lose it like a sheet of paper. Plus, a user can come back whenever he wants and share it quickly with friends .... Yes, it´s planned for little kids. In Germany, the 10 year old pupils learn the parts of the microscope and have to name them in the tests. So I thought for this case it´s a nice tool.

-Thanks for telling me that. I will change it in the Spanish version.

That was just an example. Check the rest of the Spanish version and all the other language versions against properly labeled diagrams!

These translations, they were not from the google translator. I´ve used the google picture search and took pictures as basis from websites, which looked serious to me.
