Phase contrast diatoms in water vs high RI mountant

Article was written by Dave Jackson of Better Microscopy

First part of the article tells you why diatoms look different in water, compared to in high RI mountant.

You can stop at "But, with a Polanret system........" If you don't have interest for that specific Polanret system.

His web site has some other interesting articles too:

When I first glanced at the articles in Fan's links, it was too long to read. But I took a closer look this morning, and found it very interesting indeed, and so want to encourage others who have an interest in any or all of the following: AO offerings of the past, phase contrast, variable phase contrast(!), refractive index, general microscopy methods and techniques.

This "AO Polanret" article is especially fascinating to me: http://bettermicroscopy.blogspot.co.uk/ ... i.html?m=1

Great stuff - thanks Fan!

Thanks, Fann, for the good content of this 'microscopy blogger'. I wonder if this person:"DJ" is a kind forum:"Microscope" member...Mr.Jones...is this your useful content?!

I'm sort of curious what this persons name is! charlie guevara

Charlie G,

DJ = Dave Jackson
of Better Microscopy

His blog also has interesting articles about
DIY contrast techniques and
using finite objectives on AO infinity scope.
