You need to purchase this Book

Fresh-Water Invertebrates of the United states, 3rd Ed, Protozoa to Mollusca
Author, Robert W. Pennak

Last month Charlie Guevara recommended I buy this book in regard to my posting
of photos of ‘Cladocera (Water Flea) with Egg’ from Amazon. It is available used in good condition Hard Cover from various vendors, cost ranges $12.00 and up with $4.00 shipping.
As stated in chapter 2, Protozoa, “this book is primarily an identification manual”.
The detail it goes into is extraordinary and covers a great deal more then the ID of these critters. An education for both the Microbe hobbyist as well as the experienced people on this forum.

I just bought one too -- It cost me just a bit over $10.00 for the third edition hard cover. Not too shabby!

Today I realize these forums are forcing me to buy stuff off Amazon! Stop it! All of you!

Chapter #8 Rotifera, is 56 pages. Lots of detail drawings.

All drawings & diagrams are black & white and well detailed throughout all chapters. Not many photos

I have read a few chapters and distribution outside the USA is discussed.

A few of the chapters – #1 Introductory Essay- #2 Protozoa- #11 Tardigrada
#11 Cladocera (water fleas) Total of 25 dedicated chapters on all the critters you will run across.

This book is supposed to be one of the best with beautiful fold-out illustrations. Price is a bit high though...

Thanks for posting. It is interesting to see that on page 83, Robert Hook illustrated how crystals can achieve their geometrical shape through a compilation of spheres (like atoms). He does not mention atoms in his text, but it is like he assumed they must be made out of smaller structures. He writes:

And though there be never so many placed together,
they may be rang'd into some of these lately mentioned Figures, all the
angles of which will be either 60 degrees, or 120, the figure K.
which is an aquiangular hexagonal Figure is compounded of 12 globules
or may be of 25, or 27, or 36, or 42, etc. and by these kinds of texture,
or postion of globular bodies,may you find out all the variety of regular
shapes, into which the smooth surfaces of Alum are form'd.
Seems to me that he was thinking of an "atom"-like structure where an increasing number of small globules (decreasing in size), eventually creates a smooth surface if small enough.

He made these drawings in 1665. The atom was discovered (or assumed to be existing) by John Dalton around 1803... This is remarkable. Robert Hook was almost 150 years ahead of his time...
