The Ciliate Diversity Chart

#1 Post by 75RR » Thu Apr 23, 2015 2:08 am

Chart link is: http://members.aon.at/peigner/Ciliate%20Diversity.htm

It can be saved as a pdf in my browser at least by: File - Print - Save as PDF - Save

The Web Site is Protozoa - Ciliophora - Hypotrichida

Its Home Page is: http://members.aon.at/peigner/index.htm

This is a link to the pdf with an additional more precise scale, as size is an important identifier.

A super chart, and a nice addition to my file of crib notes, which to date only consisted of the field diameters of my scope, and some hastily scribbled gobbledygook about fish scales. Many thanks for sharing the link. 8-)

They also have a good page on Spirotrichea/ hypotrichs-

members.aon.at/peigner/HYPOTRICHIDA from KAHL.htm

But the pics are too vague for me, but are good to narrow it down and then do a web search for photos.

The ones that mostly get in my bird bath I believe are- Spirotricha/ Hypotrich/ Stylonychia Notophora.

A new kind I first saw yesterday is an elongated "long tall drink of water" version of HYPOTRICHIDA and might be-

p. 572
Uroleptus piscis 1

The Stylonychia Notophora and the possible Uroleptus piscis do not get along at all. They go near it. It runs away.
