where can I buy metric cheese head screws
where can I buy metric cheese head screws
Hi all,
I need a small quantity of M3 and M4 metric cheese head screws and after searching the web for the last two days I found them but min. quantities are 50 or 100 pieces. I did find one distributor in the UK but would still have to buy 30 pieces. MRMETRIC sold small quantities but they closed in 2017. Does anyone know where I could buy six m3 and six M4 screws?
Thanks,
henryr

Lots of sellers on e-bay Henry.
Here's one I normally use.

That kind of thing I have been getting from China on ebay lately. You can get small or large quantities for peanuts, if you don't mind waiting a bit for them. We do have a Brafasco, and a few other fastener specialists nearby but odd things like that usually need to be ordered and often in quantities of 50. They most often stock their little needed warehouse items with Chinese product anyway.

I'm sorry, I don't remember where you are Henryr? UK I assume? I will check and see if I have anything like that. Must they be cheese head? and do you mind me asking what they are for and how many do you need of each?

Thanks for the reply. I'm on the east coast of the USA. I only need six of each size and they are for some mods I'm trying on a dialux.

I have 6 x 3M .05. There is a slightly undercut unthreaded shank about 1mm long. The threaded section is about 4mm more. The head is a 5mm slot type about 1mm thick, slightly domed. They appear to be stainless steel.

I got a recommendation to try https://www.accu.co.uk/13-cheese-head-screws and they will sell even one piece. I ordered everything needed and the total cost, including shipping was very reasonable.
Re: where can I buy metric cheese head screws
Back in 2015 when I converted my 170mm TL dialux to 160mm TL I designed and machined a dovetail spacer that raised the head up .268”. Thinking about it now it seems it could have been done with a very simple .268” thick aluminum ring and a few longer screws. It seems the top plate for a 42mm head clamp can be attached to bottom component of a 43mm head clamp since they have the same hole spacing. The only things needed to accomplish the conversions are the simple spacer ring and three m3 x 20mm and three m4 x 14mm cheese head screws.apochronaut wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 6:01 pmThat kind of thing I have been getting from China on ebay lately. Those are pretty long.
Re: where can I buy metric cheese head screws
I got info, from groups.io/g/Microscope/topic forum, that diversecomponents made cheese head screws. So I searched for diverscomponents and one hit was ebay UK where Diverse Components, under the name diversec, and GWR-fasteners sell brass and stainless steel metric and BA cheese head screws. Based on their photos they appear to be fully machined. And they sell lots of other goodies.
