I don't know if any of you use slide boxes but these are as inexpensive as I havee seen.

Instead of going cheapest, may be better to target those with nice flat sides so you can stand them on end like books. This way saves shelf space, and keeps the slides situated horizontally which isn't a bad idea. In fact, storing slides vertically oriented is a bad idea. So is assuming all mountants solidify to the point of never ever creeping, if you get my drift...

I agree with Kurt... Those stack and stand well on a shelf...

While I was not advocating these boxes, only pointing out that they are available, I have heard that some "rocket scientist" types have placed them on a shelf in such a manner that the slides ARE vertically oriented.

edit:I mean by the above that slides can be in whatever orientation reguarding gravity that one wishes. Because a manufacturer calls a part of the box the bottom doesn't make it so. We can place the box on any of the 6 'bottoms' ! :-)

If you have taken offense I apologize. Maybe I should have added to my post that I call vertically stored slides a bad idea because I have unwittingly ruined some slides myself by doing so, and made a terrible mess in the slide box in the process. Plus I have heard it straight from the great Brian Matsumodo that professionally prepared diatom slides can be ruined by vertical storage because the mountant isn't always totally solidified. Can you imagine pulling out a 100-form exhibition slide and finding all the frustules migrated to one side?

Hi Charlie,

I am with Kurt.. We meant no offense... I had always heard that storing them in the proper manner was important..

Best Regards,
