Black (Brass) Zeiss WL
Black (Brass) Zeiss WL
Not mine - sort of wish it were, but sensible people only have one. That is until I grow another head and a couple of spare arms anyway. ;)

Re: Black (Brass) Zeiss WL
I did not know that non-grey WL's exist. It looks beautiful! I might have desired it as an upgrade to mine. However, $158 + $102 (shipping) + $38 (VAT) = $298 for a nearly bare stand! maybe for a collector of scopes. AND I think that the seller removed the trino head and condenser and photo eyepiece from the stand and is selling it separately. Right now.
To think that a couple of months ago a working grey WL, trinocular, 3 objectives, eyepieces and light source was offered locally at $180...

Thanks! I do! a fine display. So the black WL and black Universal are there. The name "the brass gang" could also mean a saxophone/trumpet/clarinet(...) player band75RR wrote:I think you will probably enjoy this photo:I did not know that non-grey WL's exist. It looks beautiful!

A question though: which condenser is fitted in the second from left (it is a GFL like mine)?

Re: Black (Brass) Zeiss WL
Good question, had not noticed that.
Perhaps a N.A. 1.4 achromatic-aplanatic condenser Z (see page 90 of Zeiss Optical Systems)
Hopefully Charles will know.
I believe the microscopes are, from left to right: Standard Junior KF, Standard GFL, Standard WL and Photomicroscope.
Apparently very few of the black Photomicroscopes were made.
My first microscope was a Standard Junior KF with a 3 objective nosepiece!
P.S. Found this page in:

As you can see it is the same photo!

Here's one.Hobbyst46 wrote:I did not know that non-grey WL's exist.
I could have painted the lamp house (and power supply?) black to match, but declined to modify original equipment.

@KurtM
What a beauty. Is the HBO lamphouse attached to the base or just placed aligned against it?

Re: Black (Brass) Zeiss WL
Thanks a lot 75RR for the information. I see now that it should be rigidly attached.
Re: Black (Brass) Zeiss WL
Yep, 100W halogen, and yep, dovetail-attached. Also have an AO 120 on the bench - similar to the AO 110, but with 100W halogen lamphouse. I dig da bright lights!
(Feels kinda funny to say that, since I'm also a lifelong amateur astronomer/telescope nut, where precisely the opposite is true.)
