What's on the left side of the microscope? Did you motor the Z? Or is that just some thing else there? Thanks.
Re: Nikon Labophot 2 phase condenser & objectives wanted
I'd be curious about points to set ups and part lists as well:
There are a bunch on ebay. But it would be great to get details on how to use and which ones and differences:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/NIKON-PHASE-CO ... SwjDZYZ3Ln

The first of these is for the older S series of Nikon stands, so has a sleeve that the condenser is pushed up into, and clamps with a screw.microb wrote:I'd be curious about points to set ups and part lists as well:

The second has a dovetail, to fit stands such as the Labophot and Optiphots. These were much later.
Hence, they are very different fittings.
How to use...fairly similar for all phase condensers, so if you have used phase before...should be no difficulty.
Re: Nikon Labophot 2 phase condenser & objectives wanted
The second phase condenser at $199, while correct for an Optiphot or Labophot, has only a .85 NA condenser objective. I believe stjepo will want one with a 1.25 NA condenser lens?
Re: Nikon Labophot 2 phase condenser & objectives wanted
Well, when I bought the Labophot 2 it came without the lamp housing. After I burnt a few cables I went to eBay and the best offer I found was of $ 50 + $ 20 (Lamp Housing plus taxes and transportation nearly 25% of what I paid for this Labophot 2 with 4 original Nikon E Plan objectives) so, I decided to make my own lamp housing .microb wrote:What's on the left side of the microscope? I measured the lamp area and made an exact AutoCAD drawing of it and printed it. I went to the kitchen and I decided to have a cup of tea TWININGS, then suddenly I saw the red tin box and I approached it to my lamp housing drawing... oh!!!... It fitted perfectly the area even the corners angles ... (well, once it was cut by the middle, of course).
The Tea lost its 'case' and I gained a nice ’lamp housing'. I Cut the tin in half, painted in black and joined both parts with fancy screws and irons adjusting it to fit the lamp area, now is like a glove and do its job, no more burned cables.

Looks very nice.
Is the lamp house mechanically attached to the rear of the microscope or just placed adjacent to it ?
Which lamp is inside ? are there optical parts - reflector, collector lens etc ? is the bulb location optimized for illumination ?

It fits perfectly around the border. It has a 6V 30W bulb. '...optimized for illumination?' no way to move it. I haven't found any instruction about it in the manual.Hobbyst46 wrote:Looks very nice.

Looks all complete and and images look correct.

Here's a useful picture of [what I think is] the original Labophot lamphouse:
https://lavinia.as.arizona.edu/~mtuell/ ... C_0264.jpg
see page: https://lavinia.as.arizona.edu/~mtuell/ ... lamps.html
It's all pretty basic, but does feature a set of screws to adjust alignment of the filament.

And the same goes with the Optiphot lamp housing. This is why I asked about lamp positioning.MichaelG. wrote:Here's a useful picture of [what I think is] the original Labophot lamphouse:

The Optiphot lower lamp port, the fixture on the microscope itself, becomes brittle with time and heat (from the lamp, probably). The DIY'd lamp housing based on Twinning tea will probably serve just as well.
Re: Nikon Labophot 2 phase condenser & objectives wanted
This Optiphot instruction book covers adjustment of the lamp quite well:

Then I stand corrected ... please ignore the lavina links that I posted:stjepo wrote: ... I have the Labophot 2

Provided, of course, that you are using the specified 'special' lamp [see page 29 of your manual]
I can only assume that this bulb is so accurately pre-focussed that individual samples do not require re-centring.
With my apologies for any confusion caused

Dear Michael I am grateful for the time you have taken to try to help me, there wasn't any confusion whatsoever.MichaelG. wrote:Then I stand corrected ... please ignore the lavina links that I posted:stjepo wrote: ... I have the Labophot 2
