Hi all,
I'm selling my Nikon E400 and accessories (full list below). Recently serviced (September 2019) by Fullerscope Services. I bought the microscope at the start of my PhD, having unexpectedly come into a small pot of money and thinking that I would stay in academia forever. I am now leaving science and would like to move the microscope on as I have no room for it in my flat. During my PhD, I was using the microscope to identify Antarctic diatoms (shown in the images), so I know that these objectives are great at resolving fine details such as the areola and stria of even the smallest marine diatoms. Unfortunately, imaging diatom frustules was never a strong point of mine (I'd rather use an SEM), but I have tried to show the quality of the objectives in the images (I can provide more upon request) using my D3200. The stria of the gyrosigma can be seen at 40x, and the proximal raphe ends can be seen at 100x. This setup is ready to go for a Nikon DSLR and would be ideal for either an academic or an amateur looking to get into imaging/photomicrography. If you wanted to use a different brand of camera (for example, Leica or Cannon) then a T-mount adapter can be purchased for about £10 from most good camera stores. It would be very easy to do this. The Martin microscope adapter itself cost $500 without shipping taxes.
The microscope has been looked after and is in very good condition.
I have been told that I would get more for all the equipment if I stripped it and sold it individually as parts, but I neither have the time nor desire (read patience) to do so, hence I am selling everything in one transaction. You could easily make some money back on unwanted eyepieces etc.

You can come and test the microscope with your own slides if you wish beforehand, we can organise a time that is suitable for us both. I have many more photos of the microscope, but can only upload 5 images per post. If you would like more, please don't hesitate to ask.
Many thanks

Re: Nikon E400 for sale
That looks like a very fine microscope. Has it been to Antarctica? I think you should advertise that if it has.

Has this gone to a new home? I should love to read the poster's paper - the Antarctic has fascinated me for most of my life, starting with a children's life of Scott, then on to the ''Worst Journey in the World'' (Apsley Cherry-Garrard) and scientific literature.
