I have two bird baths. When I get water samples it is noted each one will have a separate species and usually (unless we are getting really small) only one species-
Say one will have rotifers. Another time it will have something else. Yes I change the water is why.
I think bird droppings bring the eggs or whatever (or ones that just pass through or even are on the birds perhaps).
My brother who works at a waste water treatment plant and talks to an older guy at his work- The guy often says-
If you have a lake or pond totally isolated from all other water sources- someday there will be fish in it.
Any thoughts anyone?

When birds walk or bathe in the birdbath or other body of water, they can transfer organisms (or eggs or cysts) carried on their feet or feathers.
