New lab bench
This past Saturday we were at Sam's Club during our monthly shopping run in a sort-of nearby larger town, and Wife pointed out a sturdy looking workbench that they had for sale, asking if it would make a good lab bench for the scopes and whatnot. Now it just so happens that I have the identical bench in my testing lab at work, and am very satisfied with it, so I said "Sure!". After some discussion she said, "Well, you better call for help, I don't think we can load that ourselves. Heck yeah!

We have had so much rain the last few days that our yard is much too muddy to try and unload it now, but sometime in the next few days I hope to get it in the house and set up.
Do I have a great Wife, or what?

Congrat's CE!! But keep the former bench to hold kit..and start out 'fresh' on your new bench...with promises to your self not to let it get cluttered.
For all those heavy stands, in their cases, centrifuge, other kit...close at hand you need those super strong self-assemble metal stand alone shelves...five levels about right. all the best with your holiday present. Charlie guevara

It's a beauty, have a think about your work-flow before you position it. Your Wife is clearly a lady of taste and distinction, just like mine!
Enjoy your extra space!

Re: New lab bench
Thanks!
Yes, it's going to take a lot of thought to just get the bench into the room. It's a very tiny spare bedroom at the far end of the house, and it's already jammed pretty full of "stuff". I'm going to have to do some serious head-scratching over the next few days.

Re: New lab bench
If you look at some of my really early photos you will see I had that bench. It is very solid and quite good! Lost it in the fire. Bought one with drawers to replace it.

Re: New lab bench
I thought I remembered seeing one or two in some of your photos.
Yes, they are very sturdy, we have 4 or 5 of them at work, have gotten very good service from them for several years.

Re: New lab bench
Be careful. You are going on the same path. First you buy a scope then another, then another. Then you need another Bench. You cram everything into a single small bedroom. Then your collection grows and next thing you know you have annexed the basement...LOL

Super Wife and super bench. Congratulations!

Here is a quick snap of the just completed bench with my lab assistant looking on. I just have the scopes sitting there for a little glamour, will have to figure out some things for the final arrangement.

I like the bench, but it's just too small.

Re: New lab bench
Actually it is a good size and quite sturdy. You can store your scopes on a shelf. Then the bench can be used for the scope you are currently using leaving you plenty of room.

Re: New lab bench
It's much better than what I had, believe me! And it is super sturdy!
Yes, the plan is for the scopes to live on shelves (not shown here) when not in use, only the one(s) being used will be on the table.
One thing is, it's pretty tall. Using our tall dining chairs is just about right, though the eyepieces of the LOMO L-2-2 are still a little high even for me... Wife has to stretch to look. The Olympus is a fair bit shorter, and is just about right, as is the LOMO Multiscope. I'll eventually have to get a lab stool I think.

Maybe I should have said it like this:
I like the bench, but it's just too small.

Re: New lab bench
No worries lorez, I knew what you meant! I would certainly like it to be bigger myself. But, if I move the shelving unit and take out the computer desk, I can fit another one of these along the other wall making an "L" shape along that corner of the room. That's the long term plan, just don't tell Wife.

Re: New lab bench
I like the 'L' arrangement. It puts all the important stuff close at hand. I would find a diversion for the Wife while proclaiming a national emergency. Then long term would become immediate gratification.

That has great promise to be a pretty nice setup, Eddie. I really like the Oly, and have a few myself (I have a soft spot in my heart for the BH2 hardware).
Can't wait to see more pictures when you implement your master plan. I love to see lab photos!

Re: New lab bench
Thanks for the compliment Carl!
Unfortunately, the lab lives in a nearly constant state of disarray. It doubles as growing room for our carnivorous plant collection, and in spring and summer is often pressed into service as germination, propagation, and potting area for many of the outdoor plants. It takes quite an effort to get it looking neat enough for even the simplest of shots such as the previous .
Its always good to meet folks who appreciate the Oly's, and the BH-2 in particular. I hope you don't mind if I pick your brain now and then.
