Blue green algae can be very toxic, the local lake will often have warning signs in summer (several pet dogs have died after swimming; no humans that I know of (yet)).

These hazardous blooms happen occasionally. We have had warnings about them in my part of Illinois recently too.

We see plenty of them in the UK. It's not something I've followed but I think the district councils get out and put them up when there's a local "outbreak".
Perhaps not in actual proportion to the risk, it's one of the things like ticks, or moths with urticating hairs, which are interesting for local radio, newspapers, and schoolkids.

But they are nice to view in the microscope and not as bad as a brain eating amoeba :)

In Upstate New York we have beautiful Finger Lakes (result of the glaciers 10k years ago). Use to be pristine but now with farm field fertilizer run-off Blue Green Algae is there in late Summer.

Yeah , I think ameba is happy to be in the brain.

Now here is something that will bug you or maybe tick you off

fleas bring plague and ticks give this bacteria and yet could be fatal.
Not too mention there is out break of bed bugs
The ugly little things infest everything and leave tiny blood stains on everything.
mosquitos and fleas, ticks, bed bugs are
Parasites and I rather have ladybugs or pray mantis especially in my bedroom. What you think?

Rats good grief
This sign states about rat bite fever
According to the cc
and this is rat bite fever bacteria
My guess this about mainly wild rats and mice.
