Info on this Wild please

#1 Post by 75RR » Sun Jul 17, 2016 3:04 pm

Sorry for the bad quality images

Anyone know anything about this model?
Is it a practical stereoscope to have as a second scope or is it too specialized?
Seller calls it a geologist microscope.
Also any idea of what one would cost in reasonable shape? What would one look for when checking it over?
Have not seen it yet, waiting for seller to drop the price again.

Note: Looking through http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/art ... rbrugg.pdf it would seem to be an M8 though with a different head and base from the one shown in the pdf on page 30. Is this correct?

That does look like an Wild M8 with magnification from 6-50 without auxillary lens and 10X eyepiece as the article states. This one seems to have an auxillary lens. Things to check for condition of the optics and smooth power change. Old Wild stereo scopes continue to be an excellent value in performance and cost. They generally run from $500-1500. If you get one in good condition for under $450, you would do well.
