A better freeware to post images than Photobucket

#1 Post by JimT » Thu Dec 15, 2016 11:43 pm

Anybody have any suggestions for an alternative to Photobucket as a way to post images? I was using 500PX but forgot how and would prefer not to fill it up with microscopy images.

Open to suggestions.

I use dropbox for most images. Also Flickr is pretty good.

For what it's worth, I use imgur. It is fine for hosting images, but, at least at present (they may be working on the software), they are not good for non-registered users to look at your images, as you can see from mine: http://micritter.imgur.com/all
where, in order to look at a picture you need to right-clcik and then open in a new window, but then to look at another picture you have to repeat the process. Just left-clicking opens a dark window. It used to work better, which is why I assume they are working on the software.
But if all you want is to use it as a host, it is fine, as far as I am concerned. Flickr is good (lots of people use it), but you have to register with Yahoo and give your name, etc. On imgur you just need your email address. And it is free.

Added in Edit: In what way do you find Photobucket unsatisfactory? I left it when they no longer respected the size of the image I uploaded, and so some of my old images that were already posted on the forum were made larger than I intended. I found that aspect unsatisfactory. Also my videos on Photobucket started to display very weird patterns, so I now use vimeo for the videos.

Thanks HKV and Gekko. I will give them a look.

My complaint with Photobucket is with the ads. Way more than there use to be.

Do you use an ad blocker?
Zeiss Standard WL (somewhat fashion challenged) & Wild M8

I was about to say that I don't notice any adds on Photobucket... but then 75RR reminded me that I use AdBlock and uBlock Origin.

Adblock didn't stop them. Didn't know about Ublock. Anyway, I just signed up for Photobucket adfree for $15/year. I expect that to solve my frustration.

Thanks all.
