Mounting needle
I see videos of slides being prepared with a mounting needle and it seems to do the job nicely, lowering the cover slip in a way that avoids bubbles, but I just can't seem to find one. Amazon shows me pictures of carburetors when I search there. It's a simple thing, but I've learned over years that the simpler the thing you want the harder it is to get. Anyone know where I can order one?

Re: Mounting needle
Ah! Thank you so much Eddie! I love buy with one click! I'd only heard it called a mounting needle, dissecting needle worked.
Re: Mounting needle
I got bored one day and made these from stuff in the junk drawer.
Needles are made from taylor’s T pins which are robust and not brittle like a sewing needle. The commercial dissecting needles I have are softer.
The third tool is a nylon brush bristle for a softer touch.
If you have a cat, a shed whisker is an excellent soft manipulator.

A biology dissection kit has some nice tools. There are a few of them on Amazon.
And not too pricey.
I got this one. It is working well for me:

Re: Mounting needle
For something flexible, I use a single bristle from a really cheap paint brush from the Dollar Tree. The bristles are fairly thick, and flexible but not too flimsy. They are black, and I have no idea what kind of plastic they are made of. I use them to make final position adjustment of whole mounts on slides before dropping the cover slip on. The bristles are resistant to xylene, which is the last liquid the specimens are soaking in before a drop of Canada balsam dissolved in xylene is dropped on them.
