This is a Zeiss Axiostar infinity microscope with four A-Plan infinity objectives, 5X, 10X 40X and 100X. The binocular head and eyepieces are Olympus, but they seem to fit well and work well with this system. The eyepieces are 30mm WF 10X22 which gives you quite large field of view. The condenser appears to be an Abbe 1.25 although it has no markings. Powered by a 6V 20W halogen light. Now I'm on the look out for a trinocular head, a few different objectives and condensers.

Cleaned up real nice and everything operates perfectly.

Congratulations Charles!

FYI, I have friends that put up steel buildings. Not long ago they built one for a milking operation over 1300 feet long. I can get a bid for housing your Zeiss collection if you like? :-)

Speaking of which, seems like it's been a while since Charles showed us a new acquisition (or two or three...). What gives, Charles, did you go to Microscopes Anonymous or decide you're boring us or what?

Original post is over a year and a half old! Why the bump?

I think he had to slow down or buy a bigger house! :)

75, seems to me a lot of postings have been bumps of years-old threads lately. I've been getting used to it, or at least have learned to check OP date.

Some folks object to the practice of casually replying to ancient threads, but I tend to enjoy it myself. Having said so, it's always excellent form when those who do start with "I know this is an old thread, but...".

"I know this is an old thread, but...".
Like your intro to bumping an old thread

Part of my objection, apart from the lack of correct etiquette when doing so, is the fact that in many cases the offending parties are wannabe spammers, hoping to accumulate enough posts to PM forum members.

Curiously they do not seem to realize that bumping old posts, rather than allowing them to add to their postings in a circumspect manner, actually highlights their activity.

Hi all, yup, a few times recently I simply trusted the 'active topics roster'..and posted thoughts to a thread. Only latter did I notice it was a 'reactivated' thread. If the conversation is thoughtful..I don't mind when a thread starts up again. Hi, 75RR, are sinister motives always the driver (and the outcome?) of reactivated threads, I never thought about it before.

If somebody/some robot abuses the PM service..ca'nt this be dealt with rather than concerns over a thread started up again...that's if the thread is of interest ( Charles showcases his stable of stands with wonderful insights and facts about the acquired stands).

I'm the chump who was pleased to see a fantastic You Tube link gecko posted ( on an Australian colorful jumping spider I think)...because it was in roster of 'active topics'...I totally missed that it was a years old thread. But new comments were to my mind good in the conversation...hmmm.

How does a thread show up in: active topics...with the original posters first entry...I'm curious?

Has anyone heard from, Oliver...I hope all is well? Charlie guevara

Not for a while - was wondering that myself.

Not always, it is just that a comment apropos of nothing on an old thread by a new member who does not bother to introduce themselves raises red flags.

Why are you all spamming my post? :D

Thank you Moose. It is a nice scope. I did find a Zeiss trinocular to replace the Olympus head and also got a 20X APlan objective for it.

Kurt/75RR,
I've been busy diatoming, but I am still buying scopes and stuff. I recent got another M20 Epi and a Ortholux Pol as well as other parts and pieces of scopes and between cleaning them up and diatoming, I haven't had time to post any pictures.

I'm trying to clean blocks of diatomite right now and trying to figure out what is needed to break it down and get it cleaned. Will give an update as soon as I have a good procedure.

I imagine you already know about the freeze-thaw-freeze method. Whatever, please do let us know, very interested here.

As I heard:
Repeat freeze thaw for 10 times.
Then boil in 98% H2SO4 + 38% HCL

Charlie, what model Olympus binocular tube did you use? Did you need to make any adaptations to get it to fit? Is there a trinocular tube other than a standard Zeiss that will work? I have a standard Axiostar but for the life of me can't find a Zeiss trinocular tube.

I don't know what model the Olympus head this was, but I sold it off. There was an adapter ring which helped the Olympus head to fit on the Axiostar. I think it was a homemade one. I got an Axio model trinocular head, but it also had a larger fitting than the Axiostar. I used the same adapter which was used to hold the Olympus head on.

If it's an jnfinity head the spacing isn't critical so a dovetail adapter is an easy option, though zeiss infinity objectives require a zeiss tube lens for corrections.
