New Lens

Last week I ran across a deal I couldn't pass up: a 63x/1.4 planapo objective lens and matching DIC slider in primo condition for my Zeiss WL stand -- a combo I've been looking for since nearly this time last year. The goodies came in yesterday, and I'm sure I'll soon be posting images made through them, but until then here are a few pictures just for the fun of it.

Congratulations ... does that make 4 sliders + matching objectives now?

I take it you have a copy of this wish list?

Good looking rig, and just dripping with potential.

Standing by to enjoy the output.

Great images, like the lighting.

Congratulations, Kurt!

You WL looks great too. How do you like its removable objective turret(s) - is exchange quick and easy? Do you use one turret for DIC and the other turret for phase?

75, no, I have never seen that list. Now that I have I'm ruined and can never be happy again ... since I have strong suspicions half those items are made of unobtanium. At least for me, anyway -- like I said, it took me nearly a year just to find what I've shown here.

Rod, your recent bright phase objective set photos inspired me to play around with my new toys, and copious excellent camera gear, to try for a little "swag art" of my own. Nice to hear you say good things about 'em, I respect your opinion as a fellow photography nut.

Fan, I only have the one nosepiece for the WL. I haven't figured out the final arrangement just yet, but for now I'm populating it with three DIC lenses because I only have three extensions with slider slots. The other two holes contain the 63x/1.25 Neofluar Ph3 and Nikon slide marker. It is, of course, a very simple matter to swap anything I like, as I wish. And I will most likely get another DIC extension before long.

My fully equipped AO 120 lives on the bench full time for low power scanning, and dark phase contrast work. The AO 10 traveling scope is standing by for instant deployment any time bright phase is wanted. Then there are a few other scope for this and that but none with multiple nosepieces. Not yet, anyway.

Very nice! I have the same objective permanently sitting on my Universal, but no DIC slide. I use single arrow setup, and although it is not perfectly matched with 63 1.4 plana pour, it works.
You have very nice black WL sand too :)

Thanks for the compliments, y'all. Naturally I'm a bit of a proud papa when it comes to the Zeiss, but even more so, absolutely delighted to be once again using a "black beauty" as a workhorse microscope. It's like coming full circle since I started with a Spencer Model 33 back in the mid 80's, then had my interest in microscopy reignited by a Spencer Model 13 later on. Such beautifully styled stands!

Model 33 is the monocular on the right, Model 13 is the binocular on the left.

I've been eyeballing a PlanApo in the 60-63x, congrats!
Can't wait to see pics/video. Maybe you can do a comparison for us 40x vs 63x plan apo so we can drool?
