Leitz SM microscope and Reichert Inverted microscope
Leitz SM microscope and Reichert Inverted microscope
Hello everyone. Here are a couple of pictures of my microscopes. The first one is a Reichert inverted microscope for which I have absolutely no information so if anyone has any information I would greatly appreciate hearing it. The second one is my circa 1964 SM microscope that I bought at the University of Toronto in 1987. I love this scope. I am awaiting a trinocular head to complete the kit.

Nice!
Is that LED on the inverted microscope?

Yes, it is a cheap LED headlamp from a dollar store. I have an incandescent bulb for it but the power supply for it has been stolen (Honestly, who steals a microscope power supply!). I found the headlamp works fine but I am in the process of replacing it with a proper LED frosted bulb. I have already done some tests and found the LED frosted bulb is a better choice than even the original bulb.wstenberg wrote:Nice!

I too have done some LED tests, with mixed results, but I have not tried frosted bulbs. By all means post up a thread detailing your setup in the Illumination Techniques sub-forum, when you have the bugs out of course.Aslan wrote: I have already done some tests and found the LED frosted bulb is a better choice than even the original bulb.

The multiple LEDs might show in the image. A diffuser can be made from a CD cover, ground with emery paper on one ot two sides. Diffusion effect is increased with increasing distance between LEDs and diffuser.

As mentioned recently:

Very effective with low and medium power objectives: Highly recommended.

Too many 'projects'
Re: Leitz SM microscope and Reichert Inverted microscope
I replaced the cheap headlamp with a much more expensive one with a single high brightness LED that can be focused. It fits just about perfectly and the brightness can be changed in 4 steps. I am awaiting a Lomo phase contrast kit to see if I can make everything work together.MicroBob wrote:The multiple LEDs might show in the image.
