My brand new Zeiss Primo Star

#1 Post by redflanker » Tue Dec 11, 2018 2:07 am

I just sold my Olympus CX31 with a satisfactory price, After that I bought a Zeiss Primo Star very soon. I thought the Primo star and CX31 almost of the same level. but new is better ,isn't it? :D

Nice looking scope. I believe Zeiss has those made for them by Motic.

Incredibly bright and shiny. I would be tempted to wear white gloves if that were mine. :)

Herr Zeiss und Gesellschaft seem to have entered into the spirit of the season with Christmas lights on their microscopes  !

Joking aside, do the lights have a function? Some sort of integrated brightness display, akin to the Optiphot 66 I imagine.

Yours is a beautiful microscope aesthetically, one of the rare graceful instruments (post-Lister-limb) but the temptation to expunge every last fingerprint would soon eat away at my working time! If you can resist the temptation to polish it to death, I am sure it will give you long years of fine service. I imagine new Zeiss would not be prone to delamination?

I don't think I've ever seen such a phase arrangement before -- I presume the annuli are interchanged by the movable slider, but I can see no obvious mechanism of actually aligning the annuli as opposed to merely roughly coinciding them horizontally. The ring immediately above evidently has some function pertaining to phase-contrast.

In all sincerity, I'd be interested to know how it works in practice and theory.

They are linked to the illumination, as such they indicate the output.
Have heard that it is a design feature which is apparently useful in the classroom, as it lets the science teacher see the illumination setting at a glance.
