NIKON Optiphot C-mount adapter

Hello All,

This is my first post on this forum. I am relatively new to microscopy so unsure of all the terminology and fixtures at the moment

I have recently acquired an Optiphot microscope. I am looking to attach a 1x c-mount adapter to it for a camera (and where it should be attached).
Here is a photo of the current adapter that we have on it.

Any suggestions would be great thanks.

Ben

I'm not sure, but ...
It appears that you already have appropriate optics in place "TV Relay Lens"
It should therefore only be necessary to add a simple tube with a C-mount fitment.

Some more-detailed pictures of the components might be helpful.

That is probably a 38mm tube, so with the appropriate relay lens you might just need a 38mm tube to c mount adapter like this one https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 4233643710

Edit: in light of the below post, there is also a 42mm one available https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 4128554076
It may need a t mount spacer, but fine adjustment of height can by done by adjusting what height you tighten the set screw at.

Congrat's on your aqcuirement!
I see you have it set up for fluorescence, nice to have one.

That's a 1x projection lens, and it will project a 16mm diameter image 115mm above from the lower shoulder of the lens. You'll need this adapter to hook up a C-mount camera. It's obsolete but comes up time to time on ebay.

Cheers,
John

Hi All,

Many thanks for all of your responses, they have been very insightful. I’ve purchased the 42mm c-mount of eBay, hopefully, it does the does job.

Does anyone have access to the manual for this range of microscopes (Nikon Optiphot 100?). I haven't come across one with the epifluorescent setup?

We are planning to do some fluorescent work with it, we just don’t have the budget for the latest models.

Thanks
Ben

Ah, and I forgot to mention. That trinocular head is a quite rare type and it has an ENG (B4) mount under that black ring.
This specific adapter will allow direct projection of the primary image sans relay optics with the benefit of a larger image circle than 16mm with the 1x relay. With a mag of 1x, it will be pretty comfortable with 1" sensors.
The 1x relay is only rated for 2/3" sensors and will show slight falloff at the corners on a 1".

Plus, if you are doing fluorescent work every bit of light counts so less glass between the camera and subject helps.
You sure it's a Optiphot 100? 100's are infinite systems, and I don't think that particular fluo illuminator will fit...

Cheers,
John
