Zeiss incident light microscope

how about another black Zeiss-toy for best-agers like us.

It's a "Zeiss-Auflichtmikroskop" a bit difficult to find in black and in a good shape, because they have been used chiefly for harder technical purposis.
The light is guided through an "incident condenser" into the objectivs (Epiplan HD; here the older ones from Zeiss-predecessor "Zeiss-Winkel").
This small and nice micro was built to save the conversion of a regular "Standard" to incident light with their bulby condenser.

the tube has a diameter of 30mm (1,2" ?) so that oculars with a broader field can be used








with the help of a micrometer screw it's possible to estimate the height of very small objects


The condenser is exchangeable with a condenser for 4 objectives

OK, this is interesting!!!
I have about 4 of these little beasts.
They have found their way into my collection when searching for the bases and focusing racks (for use with my Zeiss Tessovar).
None of mine are complete. I have been unable to find any owners manuals or information about them. I even wrote to Zeiss archives, but did not get useful information in return.
Is the monocular head the original configuration? One of mine has a telan lens at the top of the body tube. The other three have nothing.
I have one body tube in black. The other 3 are grey. One has very large focusing wheels that look original. Most are in rough condition from harsh use, unfortunately.
I will of attach a photo of my two most complete Auflichtmikroskops.

I would appreciate any more information about these.

Hi William,

the grey bodies of your incident-light-micros are those of the later types.
The black compositions are elder and seldom. I've searched a long time to find one with a black rack.
As a user (more than a collector) you have there two well-equipped incident light micros, which could be used even as polarization-micros.
The table should better be one to shift.

This is great information. These little microscopes have always been a mystery to me. Now, I have a lot more information about them.

It is still interesting that when these do come up for sale, they are never complete. The parts are difficult to find, even though I believe many of these were produced. The nose and turret are a small, non-standard dovetail size, and seems specific to this microscope. I have been looking for one more of these. Very rare.

Because they were mainly for industrial applications, maybe they were thrown away at the end of their useful lives. I have never seen the black stand until I saw your photos.
