AmScope T580B VS Swift SW380T
AmScope T580B VS Swift SW380T
Hi all,
After viewing all the helpful videos of microbehunter on youtube I'm ready to buy a trinocular microscope.
My budget is around 500Euros.
I was looking at Microbehunter's Microscopy Shop at Amazon and found he is suggesting the AmScope T580B.
Also by searching further I found the Swift SW380T. The trinocular version of the SW380T that Dr. Oliver also suggests.
So is there any big difference between them that I cannot tell? Personally I'm lean towards the Swift because its light source is LED.
Any ideas/suggestions are welcome.
Thanks.

I think it is important, if your first microscope is going to be a new microscope, that it be economical.
Time enough to spend more money on a second microscope if after some experience you decide that microscopy is for you.
Some members of this forum own Swift SW380T, and my impression is that by and large they are happy with them.
Link below is for the same model only a little cheaper. Note that it does not come with a camera!

I will suggest that you check the support quality of the company. I have Amscope microscopes. Ask them a question and they tell you to read the owner's manual.
I already did that and did not find the answer. No response to that. They sell the scopes and do big business but they don't seem to be familiar with the product.

Thanks guys! I will give that microscope a try. I hope to be here again soon with some pictures of mine :D
I'm so excited!
P.S: Can you suggest me an adapter for my Nikon DSLR? Actually I have the Nikon d7500. Is the third eye tube of the swift microscope 23.2mm?
I've found only this but it seems a little bit expensive.

>> I have one of those AmScope 2x adapters - and would be delighted with the price IF it provided good images. Sadly, the 2x optics aren't very good. You can get an image of about the right size, but it's not very plan and soft in terms of contrast. This was on a Nikon Eclipse, which shouldn't require corrections. The center isn't too bad and I was tryng it on a full frame camera (not expecting it to cover the entire frame), so you might possibly find it acceptable?
Most Amazon reviews are mixed on it.

Posted in the camera and digital processing topic on the forum is a question and answer post concerning the swift 380t and use of a dslr camera. That should help.

That 2x adapter is not compatible with all scopes, but gets OK results on some.

Hi Arronar
That was 'my' thread re the Swift and dslr adapter . As you can see, I had to use an extension tube in order for the (Canon) camera image to be parfocal with the ep's. It works ok, though I confess I've not actually done much with it since. I included the helical focuser to aid fine adjustment. The native 380T is really only geared up for adding an eyepiece-type camera. I did use a 5MP one before and it worked ok, but I like using dslrs, if I can. However, adding one to the 380T is essentially a modification. If you do a search on Ebay, e.g 'Microscope Adapter for Nikon w/ 2X Lens' you should see a number of the dslr adapters being sold from China. I see they've put the price up by about GBP 10. Must be getting near Christmas...

Re: AmScope T580B VS Swift SW380T
Hi,
I have the same question but am probably going to go for the Amscope because it has a C mount for cameras. This means I can use it with a Raspberry Pi High Definition camera which I already have. It’s worth shopping around for C mount cameras as they are often less expensive than the microscope makers offering. My camera costs £50(55 euro) and a raspberry pi 4 2 gigabyte singhe board computer plus power supply and memory card about another £45. This allows full software control of the camera and other possibilities such as time lapse and image manipulation before shooting.
Details of the camera are here

Compared with the Amscope camera at £200 that’s a big saving.
I don’t think the Swift camera has a C mount. I couldn’t find any information about this.

There is no modern microscope that won't accept c mount cameras, though they may require an adapter. The swift likely has a 23mm eyepiece at the top meant to accept standard c mount adapters with reduction optics.

See section V of the Swift 380T user guide https://swiftoptical.com/uploads/pdf/SW380TManual.pdf
There may not be much to choose between the AmScope and the Swift. There maybe more accessories available for the AmScope but the Swift is a good, basic instrument.
