phase annulus for AO 10 phase objectives

#1 Post by toomanyhandles » Fri Jan 08, 2021 5:52 pm

Hi, I've been reading a number of things and want to confirm:

I would like to use phase with the AO series 10 I am finding parts and pieces for.
Right now there are a number of dark (and some bright) phase objectives for this scope on ebay, but pretty much none come with a phase annulus to match.

Those annuli are specific to the objective (by power), correct? And perhaps even to the catalog# objective? I can see catalog items for just the phase annulus, 40X, e.g. #1249... would a phase condenser with PH0, 1,2,3, etc be at all useful?

i went through the catalogs and I see that for the Series 10 "phasestar" they have price listings for dark phase objectives and specific annulus for them as line-items as well.

Looking at ebay I see reproduction phase annulus available for the phase condenser, (ph0, 1,2...) but not repro items that are specific to a given objective, LIKE #1249.

How are folks making this all work?

Thank you!

Brian.

The AO 10 series is an infinity scope and the only line of phase for infinity objectives is the Dark Phase objectives. The bright-medium phase is for the 160mm TL AO microscopes and requires only one set of phase rings for bright, medium and dark phase objectives.

That's great, I will keep that in mind for the non-dark objectives.

So for something like #1227, dark field oil, 34mm, that would work with the right-sized "regular" phase inserts, 0/1/2/ DF?
No need for a 100x-specific or #1227-specific solution (on the Series 10)

The phase condenser for the AO 10 has specific positions for 10X, 20X, 40x and 100X phase annuli and also a brightfield position

Disregard my comments about the bright and medium being just for 160mmTL scopes. Looking at the the AO 10 phasestar manual on Xmission http://user.xmission.com/~psneeley/Pers ... oscope.htm, they show a bright, dark and B-minus phase objectives for the AO 10. But phase annuli in phase condenser does not change except for the long distance condenser, just the type of phase objectives for the bright, dark and b-minus. But also be aware there are different types of phase condensers: Standard, Intermediate and Long distance condensers with the Long distance condenser annuli being different.
