Reichert-Jung 1820 Inverted bukb replacement

#1 Post by rowejason » Wed Dec 15, 2021 4:09 pm

Hello all

I am new here and found your forum while researching a nice microscope I have in my classroom. I am a sciecn teacher in Flordia and inherited a room with a Reichert-Jung 1820 Inverted which I am told just needs a new bulb. I have found the manual online and done some looking around on the unit but I cannot find where the bulb is located and I am hesitant to just start taking it apart and causing more issues. is anyone familiar with replacing a bulb on one of these ? I'm really dying to make use of this in my classroom!

It is on the upper arm on the left side. Just pull the rectangle black piece (Circled in Red) which holds a halogen bulb.

OMG. So I have seen that part and opened it up and investigated it. There is no bulb in mine and I assumed this was some kind of breaker or something I was not understanding. So the replacement bulb I bought according to specs I could find is a typical small bulb with two metal prongs. I place that in the mechanism?

Also thanks for the help man. I really appreciate it!

With other halogen bulbs, handling them can leave oils on the bulb which can lead to premature failure. Since the bulb is easy to access, it might be prudent to clean it with 70% alcohol and allow it time to dry before using (if handled).
I don't know that applies with these bulbs or not, but it's really annoying to have happen.....especially on a car for which the headlights are not easy to change.

I did just that and now it is working. Thanks for the help on this. We now have a functioning fancy microscope in class for the students to use.
