We finally get the picture of the feather. That is a good start. Perhaps you can try getting it better focused? I would concentrate on the 4x objective and 10x eyepiece and try to get it sharper if I were you. You're almost there, I would say.

I think the 10x4x of the 2nd try is very good. How about if you let the feather dry, then try again, but this time use cooking oil in place of water and cover it with the cover glass? It would be interesting to see what result you get.

No, don't immerse the objective in oil! Use cooking oil instead of the water on the feather, then cover the feather with the coverslip. The coverslip remains dry on top. Use any kind of oil that you have handy. This is because feathers are hydrophobic and they repel water.

No. The oil goes on the feather only. It should not touch the objective. If you don't have oil of some kind, don't buy any. Let the feather dry, and then try to take a picture again with the dry feather.

MicroInspector - these are very nice and very good - jolly well done!

Please, please remember what you did and do it each time - don't go off and do it another way - stick to this method (you don't have to only look at feathers, but use the same method as here with other things).

The 'fluff' on the feathers - the tiny little 'bumps' are called 'barbs' - like on a barbed-wire fence - and they help the feather to keep it's shape and to stay stiff for flying etc.

If you can post pictures as nice as these you will get good feedback, as they are nice to look at and interesting. Everyone here wants you to do well - please listen to what folk advise you - they know what they are talking about. Do your best, try to get these results each time.

Good luck.
:)
