Illuminators on compound microscopes

Hi guys, I noticed the illuminators are different on one compound microscopes to the other (such as below image). Does different illuminator means different lighting or it's just a manufacturer preference to have it look that way?

Compare the specs on each unit.. Most of these designs are for "looks"...
