It does seem to exist, though not a straight swop. Found this on the Brunel site:

This is the relevant info:
Have highlighted the relevant part.
Won't this model be the SM-LUX 'HL' then thats the only SM-LUX model i can find with the halogen 20w light.

It seems they had different lampholders.

I suppose that you have three choices now.

Try and obtain the rest of the electrical components for the halogen illumination.
Talk to the seller about a return
Sell the halogen holder locally

This is disappointing, especially as it would have been an ideal solution.

As ungainly as it may be, is the longer one able to work if pushed into place until the bulb is in the right place - that is with some of the holder sticking-out of the base rather than flush like the original?
Just a thought, but maybe a stupid one....

yeah, true. I would think the options 2 or 3 will be the better bet, judging by the way the holder fits in, to adapt to the new lighting will involve more than just electrical parts, the internal tube, and reflecting pieces, are in the way, or wrongly 'shaped' to accept the new lampholder anyhow.

The seller seems okay about refunding, although i'm unsure about the order being the right part or not..
From what i've read, i have the standard SM-LUX, and the halogen version is the SM-LUX HL. with an altogether different lighting system?.

would be good to confirm this.

sorry John, missed this post. :P yeah i had thought to try it in the scope anyway, just in case. I'm not one to worry too much over the appearance of things. No luck i'm afraid. Was worth a shot though. :)

ps. I'm getting way better usage from those bulbs after the first attempt, just by using them at a lower power - no blackening and longer lifespan :)

Just as an update: seller was fantastic about the whole thing and refunded the full price, plus allowed me to keep the part. Can't ask any more than that. There are some dodgy geezers on ebay, but luckily this was not one of them. :)

I guess i have a lampholder for sale then? i really can't find any way to make it work on my sm-lux, so no point holding onto it.

Thanks go to 'scisupply2015'

That is good news.
If there is no urgency in recovering the money you might hold on to it for a bit and see if an SM-LUX-HL frame only, comes up for sale at a good price.

A good point. :) never know what might pop up for a reasonable price.

Many internet URLs were unworkable in this 'thread'.
I have two 2nd hand SM-lux here that I am converting to LED. But first a look at the original bulbs.
