Hi, anyone tried staining with Lugol iodine solution? What does it stain? are there any protocols? I acquired some recently.

Hi, it stains starch, but is also a very useful mordant for staining with Gentian-violet, which will resist removal by alcohol when mordanted with an application of LI. See also gram-staining. I use it with G-violet with plant tissue staining.
