Nikon stereoscope magnification calculaion

#1 Post by coffeesnob » Tue May 12, 2020 4:38 pm

My smzu 1x10 zoom has 10x eyepieces and a 0.5 lens. How do I calculate total magnification. IE: say my dial is on 0.4 do I use this method 10x 0.4 x0.5 which is 4 or do I use 10 x 0.4 which is 4 thanks

Typically 10 x 0.4 x 0.5 which is 2.
Except the dial shouldn't go down to 0.4 natively, so maybe you have one of the magnification marking rings installed to make the knob read mag correctly with the 0.5x objectove.

So regardless the calculation is 10 x .4 x .5 and so on for all the dial settings then correct? I appreciate the repsonse!

What is the range of magnifications visible on the dial?
Nikon had the somewhat-unusual option to swap that out so the p.5x might already be applied.

It starts at 0.4 and goes up to. 3.8

In that case the 0.5x has already been applied on the knob, so you just need to multiply by ten. With a 1x objective the magnification goes from 0.75-7.5
