How does one determine the value of such a piece?

I always find it amusing when someone lists a microscope accessory, scope or attachment etc with absolutely no knowledge of what it is, or does, even admitting as much, and then puts a price on it anyway.

I'm not referring to this item in particular but items I see on E-bay in general.

It would cost twice as much if served on fine china rather than a paper plate.
