do you remember and things to know

#1 Post by MicroInspector » Sat May 21, 2016 8:52 pm

If any of you that has been camping before
And you was told before you drink water from creek
that you boil it or drop a water purification tablet
So it be safe to drink, well my report from tonto
Forest Arizona of creek water will soon be posted
Next month along with my report from the srp canal water.

Please note. Any of you who has stereoscopes
That if you ho out in deserts or forest that you should
Look for unusual rocks like crystals and qruatz with a gold vaines

Note a piece of uranium under a microscope or stereoscope
You might see a alpha particle and beta particle shoot
off from the uranium.

Food for thought

I think you would need some kind of scintillation screen to be able to observe radioactive decay... Even then, It must be very dark to see anything.. I have done this with a home made device called a "spinthariscope" years ago..

Nice to know
I 'm a FEMA trained radiological monitor
Have my own radiological monitoring equipment

Hi,
That is very interesting!... I would love to see pics of your equipment!.. I have always had an interest in radioactivity..
Could you please post pics and maybe explain some of your tools?..

The Best,

You won't be able to actually see particles shooting off of a radioactive sample with an optical microscope. You need a cloud chamber or some such for that, and then you only see the trail of ionization left behind by the particle, not the actual particle itself.

My equipment is in storage at the time
But tell you about it
I have a working cold war civil defense high range
Survey meter and low range survey meter
Than I have pocket survey meter by Ludlum messurments
And survey meter model 3
Alpah particles is bit of of uranium isotope
Beta particles are a bit more pentetating and causes beta burns
On the skin.

Gamma rays go right though you and make you sick and kill you
Radiation sickness is very awful death
You need to remember 3 things time distance Shelter

Mind you nuclear war is hell in the earth

Being able to observe the decay particles is where the scintillation screen comes in.. It reacts with a small flash when struck.. I have seen it.. It has to be observed in absolute darkness....

In the musizum of rock and minerals here there is good size of hunk of uranium ore.
But high voltage produce in the survey meter or gieger counter
The high rage survey meter has a ion chamber that looks like a cat food can
I real don't use the new measurement of greys servant in reading
Out radiation, greys and servants sounds like Russian measurements
I use rads and mrh and Rhr
Counts per minutes or com is for alpha and beta radiation only
Mrh and rhr is just for gamma radiation

That's pretty cool, would like to see that. But again, you aren't seeing the particles themselves, just a flash of luminescence from the action of the particle passing through the phosphors on the screen.

Yes it was cool to observe.. Yes, you are only seeing the result of the decay particle striking the screen... Here is a scintillation screen for sale on Ebay.. This seller used to sell complete spinthariscopes.. This screen plus a radiation source and a magnifying glass is all you need.. The decay source can be had by disassembling a smoke detector.. They contain a few microcuries of Americium 241, which provide an ample supply of decay particles...

That isotope is a alpha emitter

Note
Cigarettes can some radioactive material

Old Colman lantern mantel contain a radioactive isotope

And a instrument used in construction which measure moisture
in the ground has a high level radioactive source
The instrument is attached to long hollow rod that comes to to a point
It shoved into the ground and there is plunger which pushes the lead chamber below ground
Than the handle is turned clockwise which opens the lead chamber below exposing the radiation source

The source is very dangerous
If a caress worker leaves it behind some one
Find it and mess with it and get seriously hurt by high level radioactive source

Yes, the old Coleman mantles were doped with Thorium to make them glow brighter... I can get a good reading from them with my CDV-700..

Hi, So what is this post about? I worked for well over 20 years in the radio pharmaceutical industry.
Used just about every type of survey instrument there is as well as single channel & multichannel analyzers.
Maintained & repaired them including calibration.
Also maintained several production cyclotrons.

Well you know you was told to boil your drinking water from a creek right?
Well I saw live micro oganisums in the creek water sample I got from tonto forest
I post that next month.

So your doing nuclear pharmaceutical?
You know device that spiecal treatment places use to treat termly
I'll paiecints...
Nothing but some main parts that a microwave over has and powerful
magnets copper tubing and a electron gun like a TV has heating element to excited
the electrons

Back they used cobalt 60 in cobalt machine
Think they use more advance treatment machines now.

In my training I heard real life horror stories from mid use of radioactive isotopes
