… that’s the first ‘small step’ completed … now starts the journey.

why one would choose it over e.g. Fiji or ImageJ, to which it is related,

Assuming that I can ever learn to drive it, I’m inclined to at least give it a try
… but don’t hold your breath
It installed easily and quickly on the the M1 Mac mini running Ventura [*]
… the machine is very fast; it’s me that’s slow !

the Oracle JDK that’s linked in the Icy instructions failed to install, but this newer one worked fine
